General
Dan Johnson (1918-1979) moved to Los Angeles in 1940 to attend Art Center School. The architect and furniture designer then set up a studio in Hollywood in the mid-1940s. In 1947 he designed furniture for Rodney Walker’s Case Study House 17. In the late 1940s Johnson created a line of iron furniture. Many of these pieces were project-specific, like with the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in 1948. Other pieces were produced in very low quantities and retailed at the Los Angeles boutique, Leslie's or were placed in projects by architects such as Craig Ellwood . His work was exhibited in early California Design exhibitions at the Pasadena Museum of Art and more recently at LACMA. In the late 1950s Johnson moved to Rome, Italy where he designed his Gazelle line in bronze and wood.

Condition
The iron frames are in good vintage condition. Some areas of paint loss to the iron frames along with scattered light scratches. The back feet / glides on each chair have been replaced. This pair shows nicely.
